Description: Lovely medieval town on three hills overlooking
the plain of River Arno.
Sights and Attractions: 13th century Church of St.
Domenico with beautiful cloister and frescos • The Cathedral (13th
Century) with richly decorated facade and bell tower. Inside is a
beautiful crucifix • Palazzo dei Viacri with battlemented tower •
The Sanctuary of Crucifix (spectacular stairway and cupola)
preserves a venerated wooden crucifix dating back to the 10th
century. • On the top of the hill rises the "Torre di Federico" from
which visitors can see for miles.
Museums: The Diocesan museum of Sacred art (next to the Duomo)
houses a collection of sacred objects and liturgical vestments as
well as works by Filippo Lippi, Neri di Bicci and Verrocchio.
Events: White truffle Market and exhibition (3rd and
4th weekends of November) • The Antique fair takes place
on the 1st Sunday of every month
Day Market: Tuesday in the upper town, Thursday in the modern
town
