Description: Castiglion Fiorentino is a small walled town in
hilly location, 17 km South - west of Arezzo, on the road towards
Cortona.
Sights and Attractions:
The "Cassero" a fortress with majestic tower which incorporates the
Church of Sant'Angelo where 13th and 15th Century paintings are on
display.
Collegiate of San Giuliano: The church preserves very beautiful 13th
Century works, paintings, sacred art, terracottas...
Pieve Vecchia: 4th Century church preserving the "Deposition" a fine
work by Luca Signorelli.
San Francesco: 13th Century Romanesque church with beautiful stone
facade, two-light-window and rose window. Inside are many frescos
among which an
impressive Crucifixion. Next is a cloister with elegant loggia and
lunettes depicting the life of St. Francis of Assisi.
Santa Maria della Consolazione: The church is a works by Sangallo
and preserves a beautiful fresco of "Madonna" by Signorelli.
Logge del Vasari ( Vasari's Loggias): The nine arches opens in the
central "Piazza del Municipio" overlooking the surrounding
countryside.
Worthy of a visit is the nearby (3 km) small medieval hamlet of
Castello di Montecchio Vesponi still preserving the ancient
battlemented walls with rising central tower.
Museums: Pinacoteca ( Via del Cassero 6): Art Gallery with
works of Sienese and Florentine schools. ( works by Taddeo Gaddi,
Giovanni di Paolo, Luca Signorelli, Jacopo del Sellaio, Vasari etc.)

Medieval Week: It is a medieval re-enacting which takes places from
the last weekend of May and the first weekend of June.
Palio horse race: It is a competition between the city quarters (3rd
Sun of June). People is dressed in medieval costume.
