 Description:
Castiglione in Teverina is a village 20 km south of Orvieto, located
on the border between Lazio and Umbria, on a rocky spur overlooking
the river Tiber Valley. Situated at 228 m. a.s.l. the small town is
13 km from Bagnoregio, 38 km from Viterbo km.38, 110 km from Rome
and 18 km from Orvieto.
Its origins are very ancient and certainly Etruscan
(necropolis of Sermugnano and Pianello). The present town grew in
the 10th century, around the fortress. In the Middle Ages was
dominated by the Monaldeschi Cervara, Savelli, Farnese families and
the Papal States.
The main activity is agriculture with good results, producing a
large number of products, including the wine that has an important
role, and thanks to which Castiglione in Teverina entered to be part
of the Wine Cities if Italy, a National Association of
Municipalities including 540 wine producing areas that are related
to wine history, tradition and culture.
